Who Am I?
Welcome to my site! I am a Concept Artist & 3D Environment Artist mainly focused on the games industry.
I have been working as a freelance artist for 2 years and my passion lies in the design of environments and props for games, Level Design, Game Design and the intersection of these three areas. And this is reflected in my workflow.
I do each step in the process from initial concept development to final in-game modelling of props and assets.
- Concept Art
- Matte Painting
- Environment Design
- Prop Design
- 3D Modeling
- PBR Textures
- Unreal Engine 4
- Substance Painter
My Recent Achievements:
Recently, I was runner up in the Sony x DeviantART “The Order 1886 Gadgets and Gear” competition in 2015 (dissecting a style and creating a weapon that would fit into that design aesthetic) and presented a demonstration titled “Designing and Painting Believable Environments with Jake Opperman” at SMASH Anime Expo 2015 where I was also a panelist.
“While working with Jake, he exemplified an unyielding drive to better himself. It was refreshing to work with an artist of such integrity. His ability to adjust and adapt is what makes him such a great artist. He will no doubt be a premier artist in both the 3D and 2D spaces very soon.” – Daniel McGowan, 3D Environment Artist on Evolve at Turtle Rock Studios
“I contracted Jake to create some environment art for my project Andromeda Wild and I have to say he’s been on of the best artists I’ve had the pleasure to work with. He started with a series of rough thumbnails based on a written description that I provided and was incredibly responsive to my suggestions and feedback before incorporating them into a more finished design. His final submissions always exceeded my expectations and he was able to complete all given tasks within a timely manner. In fact, I had originally only intended to contract him to work on two concepts yet his final designs were so impressive that I had to contract him for another two. I’m very much looking forward to working with Jake again in the near future.” – Peter Ryan, Creative Directer at Apeirogon
